If you’ve thought it’s time to lose weight or develop some new healthy eating habits, you’re not alone. Fortunately, there are great programs like Weight Watchers and Noom that help to make the process easier or at least less painful. We’ve taken a look at Noom Vs. Weight Watchers to see how they compare for a variety of weight loss needs.
Noom

- Science-backed program addresses behaviors that lead to weight gain
- Reasonably priced when you pay for an annual membership
- Offers tracking of additional healthy metrics, including blood pressure and blood sugar
- Personalized coaching
- All features are included with basic membership
Cons
- Not a complete weight loss program like WW
- Might not offer enough support for some people
- You’re in charge of meal planning, meal prep, and cooking
- May be difficult to use with meal delivery services
- Encourages daily weigh-ins that may be triggering for people with a history of disordered eating
Weight Watchers
Pros
- Complete weight loss program
- Offers in-person support groups
- Premade meals make take the guesswork out of meal planning

- Works off of a point system, which is difficult to maintain unless you’re subscribing to WW
- Charges extra fees for premium services

Noom and WW users both have access to a multi–functional weight loss app. These apps are important features for each weight loss program and have completely changed the way WW operates when compared to their earlier days.

Apps Winner
Another close category, but in our opinion, Noom beats out the WW app, although only marginally. Both WW and Noom will help you lose weight, but the additional features offered by Noom also promote healthy weight management once all is said and done.
Noom wins here because it offers more than just a weight loss program with an app. The app is structured to help Noom users overcome the mental and emotional hurdles to weight loss.
The WW app is award-winning, and we don’t knock it, but in the scope of things, we don’t see how it offers WW users anything exceptional above and beyond the standard tools to lose weight.

Weight Watchers Cost
When you go to sign up on the WW website, you’ll notice there are two program options – Core and Premium. With each program, you can choose if you want to pay for a single month at a time, subscribe for a three-month period, or choose the ten-month option. It’s interesting that WW offers a ten-month subscription but not one for an entire year. Either way, there are significant cost savings when you choose a longer-term membership over the monthly option.
WW’s Core program is what you would call WW’s basic option. When you sign up, you have access to WW’s science-backed weight loss and nutrition plan, plus the app, which allows you to scan barcodes of many different foods, plus the app offers a restaurant tracker so you don’t blow your points budget on a single meal when eating out.
Additionally, there’s a recipe catalog of more than 12,000 recipes, WW’s list of zero-point foods, a weight and activity tracker, and access to the supportive WW community online.
The Core program cost is $43 per month when you pay month to month. However, if it’s in your budget and you think you’ll stick with WW for a while, the ten-month plan is a great deal at only $10 per month.
The Premium program features all of the benefits of the Core program but also includes bonuses like coach-led unlimited workshops that you can attend either in person or virtually, in-person support groups, and weekly goals to develop the behavioral changes needed for successful and long-term weight loss.
The Premium program currently costs $65 per month, but if you sign up for the ten-month program, the cost is slashed by more than half at only $25 per month.
Noom Cost
Like WW, Noom offers a tiered pricing scale with the cost dependent on the selected duration of your subscription. At a single month, Noom is pricey enough that it might be out of the budget for some, but if you have the extra cash to sign up for an entire year, then Noom is actually a really good deal.
Unlike WW, Noom doesn’t fuss around with basic or premium memberships. All members receive the same features and benefits,
The Noom program cost starts at around $70 per month when you pay on a month-to-month basis. There’s a lot of science and support that goes into Noom, so while it might seem costly at first, there is genuine value here. If you sign up for the annual renewal plan and pay all at once, the cost drops substantially to a little over $17 per month.
Noom does offer an optional discounted or free trial period of 7-14 days. Instead of offering this trial as completely free, they ask that you pay what you feel is appropriate for the trial. This can be as low as .50 if that’s what you can afford or want to invest in a program you’re not sure you’ll even like. Noom states that this choose-your-own-cost system for the trial allows them to cover their costs while also making the trial period accessible to those who are on limited budgets.
Pricing Winner
Both Noom and WW are commercial weight loss programs, and this means they aren’t free. While Noom’s single-month cost exceeds what WW charges for a month, the annual subscription cost is lower than what WW charges for only ten months of their premium service. Noom also wins points here for having a single plan with all the features available to everyone who joins, and the “pay what you want” trial is a bonus too.
Reviews & Results
Noom
Weight Watchers
Participants lost weight with both Noom and WW and in the short term, there doesn’t seem to be a huge difference in results. Where these two programs differentiate seems to be in the long-term weight loss benefits.
Long-term, it seems more people have lost and kept off the body weight using Weight Watchers. This could have something to do with the fact that WW has a longer history and also that they offer in-person support for premium members, which may be just what some people need. For some, the Noom app alone isn’t enough to cut it long-term.
Reviews & Results Winner
When looking at the results of Noom Vs. WW, it really is hard to pick a clear winner. People lose weight with both, and the effectiveness can depend highly on what motivates you and the type of structure you need. In the end, WW wins because they seem to have a better success rate with long-term weight loss.
Community & Support
One reason why so many diet programs fail is that there simply isn’t enough support available to the person losing weight. Each journey is different, and there isn’t always that supportive person or group of friends in a person’s life to lift and help them through the challenges of working toward weight loss.
Noom, Weight Watchers, and other weight loss programs are working to change this by offering professional nutritional support and community support.
Weight Watchers Support
One of the stand-out features of Weight Watchers is its massive community. With sixty years of success, they have built a massive support community. Over its lifetime, Weight Watchers has helped millions of people lose weight, so the size of the WW community is reflective of that.
Weight Watchers offers 24/7 support through the WW App. Through the app, users can reach out to a personal coach or the exclusive WW community, depending on the type and level of support they need.
Are they feeling stuck with their current program? A personal coach is there to help with that. Maybe there’s a special event coming up, and they aren’t sure how to eat and still adhere to the points system. This is another issue that a coach can offer support with. The same applies if one’s weight loss or fitness goals have changed and they need a new direction.
WW also offers a range of coach-led workshops for premium members designed to help you get the most out of your individualized weight loss program.
Other times, it might just be that some encouragement and shared experiences are what someone needs. This is where connecting to the large WW community is important. This network is exclusive, and only those who are paid WW members have access to it. Premium members also have access to in-person support groups in addition to the online support community.
Noom Support
Like Weight Watchers, Noom offers both professional and community support for its members. Noom was founded in 2008, so compared to Weight Watchers, they haven’t had nearly the time to build up the reputation and sizable community that Weight Watchers has.
Still, Noom offers personalized one-on-one coaching. While there isn’t the in-person support that WW premium members have access to, there is a wonderful support community that can be accessed via the app.
Noom structures its digital support community into groups called Circles. These Circles are like mini-communities of Noom users that all share a common thread.
Community & Support Winner
In a sense, it feels a little like Weight Watchers has an unfair advantage here, but that doesn’t change the fact that overall, they offer a broader and more comprehensive support network. The overall community is larger due largely to the fact that they have been around forever, and they’ve had decades to fine-tune the support they offer.

Company Name
Noom and WW are both popular weight loss programs with proven success records and a lot to offer their users. Looking back at each category, it’s easy to see the comparison of Weight Watchers Vs. Noom is practically a tie. Still, we have to choose a winner, and this time, we give the nod to Noom. This choice all boils down to Noom’s focus on science-backed strategy and daily lessons that go beyond simple food tracking and exercise for food loss. We also really like that they’ve introduced a new Noom Mood program.
Still, weight loss is highly individualized, and both of these programs have their place. Which one will work best for you depends on several factors.
Choose Noom if you:
- You like the idea of science-backed daily lessons
- You like the option for add-ons like a custom workout plan
- You Appreciate that there is only one program tier and not a premium plan you have to pay extra for
- You like more options for how long you subscribe
- You want to try out the Noom Mood app
Choose Weight Watchers if you:
- You like the option for in-person support offered by Weight Watchers
- WW offers an extensive recipe database and works with Blue Apron for meal delivery
- You don’t mind paying extra for premium services, or you’re fine with the basics
- You already have a firm grasp on the mental aspect and just need nutritional guidance
- You don’t like being told “no” about certain foods and don’t want to count calories
