When looking at Sun Basket vs. Gobble, we took note of how they compare, where they’re different, and which meal subscription service offers the most value overall. While they are both meal kit companies, they each offer something a bit different to their customers.
Gobble is all about value and convenience. They offer a great menu of meals that can be prepared and on the table faster than if you brought home takeout. The quality and variety of flavors that Gobble offers are great.
In the other corner, we have Sunbasket meals, which are crafted using organic produce and nutritious ingredients so that you can make fast, healthy, and tasty meals in the comfort of your own home.

Sun Basket
The quality of ingredients is key with all meal services. After all, we don’t want to put the time in to prepare a meal with subpar ingredients that lack nutritional value, and we suspect you would rather not as well.
We’ve never been disappointed with the ingredient quality that we’ve experienced with Gobble. We’ve always received super fresh produce, sustainably raised seafood, and meats that were raised responsibly, along with being sourced by local farmers.
Sun Basket uses mostly organic ingredients, clean, fresh produce, whole grains, and sustainably/ethically sourced meats and seafood. They have a noticeable commitment to using only quality ingredients. With Sun Basket, there tend to be more ingredients used that are gluten-free, dairy-free, and soy-free, which are details that are important to a lot of their customers.
Ingredients Winner
We like that Sun Basket is committed to organic, non-GMO ingredients and animal proteins that are ethically and responsibly sourced. We feel good about the quality and that we can eat clean, gluten-free, vegetarian, and dairy-free meals without hassle.

One of the reasons that we like to use a meal kit delivery service is that we rarely have leftovers, and there’s so much less food waste (not to mention you can save time in the kitchen). But we need to actually like eating the food for this to be the case, so flavor matters – a lot!
Let’s start by saying that we love the way that Gobble meals taste. They offer a great range of comfort food and lighter dishes, so there’s something for everyone. The comfort food-style recipes are great for families. For example, the seared chicken with creamy polenta and peppercorn sauce was a big hit in our house. Plus, the prep time was practically zero, so that’s a win in our book.
For a dish with lighter flavors, the miso salmon with jasmine rice and fresh vegetables was delicious. We also ordered the seared chicken and autumn pear salad with almond-crusted goat cheese. This is a great light dinner, especially if you want to save time. We ended up making it for lunch, and it was perfect.
For the most part, we enjoy the meals from Sun Basket’s weekly menu. The salmon tacos with salsa roja and chipotle yogurt were really good, as were the steaks with chimichurri sauce. A few other dishes, while they tasted fresh and were easy to cook, left us a little iffy about some of the flavor combinations.
For example, the Creole spiced chicken with pistachio lemon aioli felt like it had too many contrasting flavors. Another one we weren’t too crazy about was the Mediterranean salmon with white bean and artichoke salad. I really wanted to like this dish, but the textures just didn’t mesh together that well, and the white bean salad ended up being a bit bland.
Taste Winner
Overall, our tastes lean towards preferring Gobble meals over Sun Basket. Both Sun Basket & Gobble offer good-tasting meals. However, we had a few misses with Sun Basket, which we didn’t have with Gobble.

Gobble’s pricing is largely dependent on how much you order. This pricing structure is typical for many meal delivery services, so it wasn’t really a surprise to us.
Customers can choose from a meal plan for two or four people and then choose if they want two, three, four, or five meals per week. The smallest plan, which would be two meals for two people, costs $16.99 per serving. The largest option, which is the four-person plan, with five meals, costs $11.99 per serving, so you can see there’s a huge per-serving price difference there. Gobble also offers free shipping on your first box.
Sun Basket prices are based on a similar structure, but we have to say that we are NOT fans of the fact that you have to hand over some information to Sun Basket before they’ll even consider giving you a peek at their plan pricing. Transparency is important to us, and the fact that they hide pricing until they have an email address or you connect with them through social media is really annoying.
Sun Basket meal kits, which are designed for two people, cost in the range of $11.49 to $24.49 per serving.
Pricing Winner
Gobble wins for two reasons here. First, their pricing is overall more budget-friendly. Not all of their ingredients are organic like Sun Basket offers, but the quality and taste are on point, so we think it’s a good value. Second, we took points off of Sun Basket for their lack of transparency in pricing.
Packaging & Recycling
Gobble
Sun Basket
Gobble’s meal kits arrived packed in a large cardboard, insulated box, which is standard for the industry. They use an insulated bubble wrap liner to keep the meal kit ingredients at the proper temperature during transit but also use recycled denim insulation during the warmer months.
Most of the packaging material from Gobble is reusable or recyclable, but there was a bit more plastic used by them than we’ve seen with some of the other meal kit services we’ve tried. While it’s recyclable, it’s a bit of a hassle, especially if you don’t have a recycling center nearby that takes the different types of plastic.
Sun Basket does a really nice job with packaging their meal kits. Each meal kit recipe is clearly labeled, and they make sure to package meats separately from the other ingredients to eliminate the risk of cross-contamination and food-borne illness.
Sun Basket uses paper insulation and ice packs to keep the ingredients at the right temp during transit and delivery until you’ve had the chance to unpack them. During summer months, Recycled denim insulation is used instead. All of Sun Basket’s packaging materials are either recyclable, compostable, or reusable.
Packaging Winner
Sun Basket just knocks it out of the park with their packaging. Considering their overall commitment to sustainability, reducing carbon footprints, and clean ingredients, it makes sense that their packaging would align with those standards as well.

Gobble & Sunbasket both offer good customer service, with the ability to pause, skip, and cancel your subscription without much fuss. We have found that when we have had an issue with Gobble, they were quick to make it right. The promptness and level of customer care is something we really appreciate, especially after trying so many different meal companies where that hasn’t been the case.
Customer Service Winner
We have to give the nod to Gobble here. We had a really positive experience with their customer service department, and that deserves acknowledgment. We haven’t had a negative customer service experience with Sun Basket, but we’re impressed with Gobble.
